Food in Andalusia
A Taste of Passion
Indulging at Cortijo El Sarmiento – truly Andalusian, truly authentic
They say the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach – and we couldn’t agree more.
At our place, a meal’s never just a meal. It might be a lazy lunch by the pool, a dinner with stories about wine and olive oil, or a cozy evening with good company and a few fairy lights.
No menus, no fuss – just proper food, great flavours, and a little bit of magic.
Not à la carte – à la corazón.
We’ll admit it – we’re true food lovers. And we know how wonderful it is to thoroughly indulge when you’re on holiday. That’s why we offer a selection of gastronomic treats here at the Cortijo:
Ease into your day with a generous, lovingly served breakfast, with delicious jams, local flavours, and everything you need to start your day.
Twice a week, there’s a light lunch served by the pool. And in the evening – if enough of you fancy it – we might dish up a tempting set menu or a tasting of regional Andalusian specialities, paired with wines from the area.
Food is a big deal in Andalusia – and even better when shared with good wine and great people.

Breakfast – the perfect start to the day
From 9:00 to 10:30, the day begins with the smell of fresh coffee, crusty bread, and sizzling bacon. The morning sun peeks over the mountains and spills its first warm rays onto the terrace.
Our breakfast brings the flavours of Andalusia straight to your table – without the rush. There’s fresh bread and rolls, butter, delicious jams, a selection of cheese and charcuterie, and everything you need for a proper tostada andaluza – olive oil, salt, and freshly grated tomato. Coffee or tea and freshly squeezed orange juice go without saying.
You’ll also find something sweet each day, plus a yoghurt treat or seasonal fruit from the local area.
No buffet, no queues, no stress. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy.
And then comes the most important decision of the morning:
Fancy an egg? And how do you like it?
Poolside lunch – for sunseekers and lazybones
The day’s all yours – whether it’s a lazy dip in the pool, a book in the shade, or a light lunch to keep things tasty and effortless.
Our lunches are made for lazy afternoons – light, fresh, and just what you need when doing nothing feels like everything. What’s on the plate? Depends on the weather and our mood… but it’s always homemade, full of local flair, and properly tasty.
Fancy a sneak peek?
Salmon tartare with wasabi ice cream – a zingy little kick for the taste buds
Carpaccio de Buey with Galmesan and truffle oil – bold, elegant, and delicious
Gazpacho – that refreshing Andalusian classic
Fresh salads with sun-ripened local ingredients
The perfect companion to a relaxed pool day – whatever the mood, the weather, or your appetite.
Wednesdays & Fridays

The Andalusian Dinner Night – our weekly highlight
Once a week, we dive into the flavours of Andalusia – from plate to glass, it’s all a celebration. Our Andalusian Evening is about more than just food – it’s a feast of tastes, tales, and local treasures. And the best bit? Every evening’s a little different, depending on the season, what’s fresh, and who you’re sharing it with.
Only the freshest, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from Mojácar and its surroundings make it onto our plates – and we make sure they shine. It might be:
A four-course Andalusian menu – honest, surprising, and just like dining at a Spanish friend’s home
A tasting evening with the finest Ibérico pork cuts – juicy and full of flavour. Nothing like what you know from home. Trust us – iit’s nothing like what you’re used to back home.
A seafood barbecue – fresh from the Med straight onto the grill. With the fishing harbour just down the road, it doesn’t get fresher than this.
A tasting night with tapas, delicacies and jamón ibérico – paired with hand-picked wines and plenty of stories. We’ll even clear up the mystery of the different ham qualities – and yes, you’ll taste the difference.
What’s on the menu? That’s our little secret – but Andalusia will treat your taste buds to something new every Sunday.
Every Sunday from 8 pm (in peak summer from 9 pm)

"Platos para compartir"
Wednesday is sharing night
Once a week, we serve up a traditional Spanish-style plato para compartir – perfect for two, and made for sharing.
It’s a proper Andalusian-style board, with everything in the middle for you and your dinner partner to nibble your way through the evening.
Expect a lovingly curated selection of:
- Very special, local cheeses
- Embutidos – dry-cured sausage and ham specialities
- Fresh tomato salad – a tribute to Almería’s most famous export
- Freshly baked bread with top-notch olive oil
- Olives & roasted salted almonds
Whether you’re sitting under the stars by the pool or in our cosy dining room – it’s the perfect way to kick off your stay or enjoy a relaxed midweek bite.
Every Wednesday & on arrival day (if available)
A quick reservation after breakfast is all you need, and we’ll serve it between 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM upon request.
On the day of arrival, we’re happy to offer the “Platos para compartir” as well – as long as you haven’t booked last minute and we don’t have any other commitments. Just check in with us beforehand, and we’ll let you know if it’s possible!

Tasty, easy-going, and just downright good

Friday evening: Wine tasting & stories in a glass
- Wine or sherry
- Nibbles
- Laid-back holiday vibes
Start the weekend right with a laid-back evening of Spanish wines – sometimes it’s all about sherry, other times it’s a selection of our top picks. Always Spanish, always delicious, and always served with tasty little bites just like the locals enjoy them.
Whether it’s a crisp white from the area, a bold red from the nearby Sierras, or a nutty Amontillado – each week, we surprise you with a new selection.
Perfect as an apéritif before heading out to dinner – light, fun, and properly tasty.

Good to know
To keep everything running smoothly, we kindly ask you to book in advance for all culinary offerings.
Our evening events require a minimum of 6 guests.
In case we’re not stirring the pot ourselves – don’t worry: We know the best restaurants around and would be happy to reserve a lovely spot for you.
Since we only offer a set dinner menu, special requests (allergies, intolerances, diets) can unfortunately be accommodated only to a limited extent.
We kindly ask you not to bring your own food and drinks – and here’s why: Firstly, dining outdoors attracts more than just us humans (and ants are the least mischievous of our potential guests 😉). Secondly, we’re rather fond of supporting our local restaurants – after all, wouldn’t you agree that authentic tapas at a family-run establishment beats supermarket snacks any day?
By the way: If you prefer cooking for yourself and keeping your own schedule, here’s a tip – check out our beach apartments. There you can eat whatever takes your fancy, whenever you please – though you’ll have to do the cooking yourself 😊
